BIO Some people enter this world with music in their veins – Phero (born Eric Lopez) is one of those people. Surrounded by musicians his entire life, young Phero began writing songs at the tender age of twelve and has been breathing art ever since. Taking influence from prolific hip hop acts such as a Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, and Common, Phero began making appearances at countless open mics and neighborhood festivals all around Chicago. As Phero matured, so did his sound. Tuning his ear to great music from the past Phero forged a new genre of jazz influenced hip hop and caught the attention of the Chicago music scene.
In 2008, Itzamma, the creative director and producer of Immaculate Entertainment, discovered a then seventeen-year-old Eric. Itzamma immediately signed Phero to the label due to his creative rhyme schemes, abstract lyrics with unforgettable punch lines, and undeniable talent. In their short time together, Phero and Immaculate Entertainment have released not only his debut EP, The Fallen Moon, but also a full length album properly titled, The Rise. Both releases were instant successes and Phero’s popularity has continued to grow. Phero has lit up the stage at many of Chicago’s esteemed nightspots such The Chicago Theater, The Dark Room, Funky Buddah Lounge, The Fizz, The Bassment, The Hot House, Hip Hop University, Metronome Festival, and many more. With his music on regular circulation on Radio Arte WRTE 90.5FM and 88.7FM and an extensive summer schedule including many major Chicago festivals, Phero is sure to become a household name.
